WINTER NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 2011

Seasons Greetings to all Watkins Residents!

The City of Watkins has had some instances of residents wanting to pay a bill with their credit card, however, the City is not set up to accept credit card payments.

Please note that the City Council meeting time changes back to 6 p.m. for the winter months.  If anyone wishes to be on the agenda or has an item for the agenda, contact City Hall by 12 noon on the Monday before the City Council meeting.

Winter has once again arrived in the City of Watkins and along with it comes the need for all residents and businesses to remember to clear the snow from the sidewalks surrounding their properties.  Please observe these safety measures as a courtesy for all residents and visitors to our City.

A reminder that snowmobiles are not allowed on sidewalks, boulevards or private property.  Please ride safely and respect personal property of others.

From November 1 to April 1, no person shall park a vehicle in the Central Business District on Central Avenue between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m.  A parking ban goes into effect for all other City streets at 12:00 a.m. when a night snow occurs.  Violators of these parking bans will be fined $25.00 - first offense; $50.00 - second offense; and recurring offenses will be fined $100.00.

As all residents are aware, the City recently installed Radio Frequency Read Meters to digitally read the water/sewer meters.  This project was done at no cost to the City residents and should provide the City with more accurate meter readings on water usage.  Another change will be that the City will switch to MONTHLY BILLING rather than every two months effective with the end of January billing.  Our hope is that it will be more effecient for residents to maintain their monthly budgets.  Another change is that there will be a $5.00 minimum penalty fee assessed if your bill is not paid by the due date.

The City of Watkins and A & A Recycling are still providing a container free of charge to residents to dispose of their recyclable products.  Please contact City Hall for a list of acceptable items and an appointment time for drop off of your recyclables.

The WATKINS AMBULANCE SERVICE is looking for volunteers.  An application may be picked up at City Hall.

If you have any questions or comments for the City, office hours are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  City Hall phone number is (320) 764-6400, fax number is (320) 764-6401.
