SCHOOL SYSTEM
Watkins is located in the Eden Valley-Watkins School District #463. The school system is a nationally recognized school district which offers a challenging and appropriate education for all students provided in a safe, nurturing environment that emphasized a spirit of community cooperation. There is one elementary school
in Watkins and another one located in Eden Valley along with the middle and secondary schools.
The Watkins Elementary is an Early Childhood Center with programs for Early Childhood Family Ed, Early Childhood Special Ed, 4-year-Old School Readiness and Readiness Room for 5-year-olds. There are also two sections of Kindergarten at the Watkins Elementary School.
The Eden Valley Elementary School is a K-6 program which features small classes, special education personnel in many disability areas, student and family support through a social worker, a "hands on" curriculum in math and science, a full computer networked elementary with two computer labs, mobile carts, and Internet directly connected to each elementary classroom.
The Middle School and Secondary School, home of the EAGLES, are located in Eden Valley. The secondary school building has classroom space to accommodate 500 or more students in grades 7-12, two fully equipped computer labs, mobile carts, BYOD initiative, direct connection to Internet and Internet addresses for all secondary students, a fine arts stage facility, a computerized media center and a vocational wing for agricultural and industrial tech. Over 120 courses are offered on a semester basis. Students can earn up to 55 college credits at no cost at EV-W High School through EV-W courses in math, physics, English, history, German and agriculture that are accredited with the University of Minnesota, Fergus Falls Community and Technical College, Mankato State University and St. Cloud State University. These credits are transferable to nearly every post-secondary institution.
Student activities include the following: Knowledge Bowl, Mock Trial, Speech, Drama, Vocal and Instrumental Music, Student Council, National Honor Society, Robotics, a school newspaper which has received state and national awards, sixteen athletic programs from 7th grade through varsity levels, plus a variety of other clubs and organizations such as German Club, Chess Club and Investment Club. The school has a rich history of success in academics, arts and athletics.
Transportation is provided free to all residents and families within one mile of the district boundaries.
